Objectification & Exposure “Display & Reduction”

Objectification & Exposure “Display & Reduction”

This class will propose playful bondages, all with the common goal of exposing and / or objectifying the bound person.

It will leave room for creativity, so that each pair can find their own way of presenting, transforming, or reducing the body to create reactions. (What may be exposing, intimidating, or objectifying for one person may not be so for another...).

This course will provide tools and ideas for finding one's own interpretation of what exposure and objectification in the ropes can create in both partners: embarrassment, vulnerability, shame, intimacy, detachment, desire, etc.
Participants will experiment with using the body as support, decoration, or visual composition, exploring stillness, restriction, and staged presentations of the body.

The focus will be on how rope can highlight, display, or transform the body into something to be looked at, contemplated, or used.
This class will also provide an opportunity to discuss the play dynamics that can be created by this kind of bondage, as well as the reactions and emotions generated, and the inner shifts that may happen when playing with agency, identity, and perception.
For a long time, the most popular shibari photos were those of people of female gender expression (whose bodies meet the beauty criteria of hetero-patriarchal society) being tied up by people of male gender expression. For some years now, diversified representations have been put forward, and the practice is tending to become less stereotyped!

Bänana and their Cat do their best to create a class where everyone, whatever their gender, expressions, and whatever the dynamics of their relationship with their partner, can feel welcome.

Bänana (she/her)

A ten-year bondage enthusiast, found her passion in shibari, drawn to its raw and authentic nature. As she has always been fascinated by the expression of emotion, shibari has opened upanewpathofexplorationtoher. She began to follow Docvale’s teaching in November 2018, later partnering with him to co-manage Atelier Simonet in Paris until summer 2023. She opened her own rope studio in Paris in 2024: La Cabäne.

As an instructor, Bänana emphasizes understanding the reasons behind each technique, rather than rote learning. She believes in using these skills to enhance the connectionwithpartners.

With experience as both a rigger and a model, she is dedicated to teaching both roles, providing tools for a rewarding rope experience.

Cat (she /her)

Has been a shibari model for 3 years, enjoying semenawa and exploring the possibilities of her body. As a course model, she also enjoys sharing the techniques that have enhanced her experiences in ropes.
She regularly gives classes in Paris at “Port d’attaches” and with Bänana at La Cabäne

This course is suitable for riggers who are comfortable tying in partial.
Having already been tied several times in partial is necessary for the models.

Communication being a central element in shibari it is always preferable to come with a partner with whom you already practice in order to allow a good experience. It's important to have already discussed the framework of your practice (desires, intentions, limits, ways of managing consent)

What to bring?

  • A minimum of 8 jute ropes or hemp ideally 6mm in diameter and 7-8 meters in length will be required.

  • Suspension gear, such as your own ring, carabiners, extra slings , etc.

  • A bottle of water (leak proof).

Without Chest Harness

In most Japanese-inspired styles, chest harnesses – especially TKs – are a central element: practical, aesthetic, and a good way to connect with the person in ropes.

When designing this workshop five years ago, I asked myself: How can we tie the hands in a creative way while maintaining both technical precision and aesthetic consistency in our bondage?

Today, I want to take it further: expanding the range of possibilities with new ties, while also revisiting and refining my favourite ones as they have evolved over time.
We will also place particular emphasis on adapting these ties to different body types, so that each person can find what works best for them.

Depending on the tie, participants’ level of experience, and their preferences, these bondages can be explored both in partial suspension and in full suspension.
